Financial Investment Challenge

hey ppl,
last weekend, i attended a two day seminar on investment and financial planning at ESSET,kwsp. it was great.i mean,i didnt know that you could be a millionaire by simply saving up ur money.i kid u not.The seminar was organized by the financial investment comittee from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
The event wasnt like any other ordinary seminars,the guest speakers were highly respectable by name and by profession. it boggle's the mind,how does students from a university could pull off something that was beyond their level as students.kudos to the commitee and kudos to the marketing bureau.
I say this because the guest speakers,range from representative of Bursa Malaysia to Puan sri's and to higly knowledgeable and experienced financial planners. The knowledge i gained and kept was more than the mere fee that was rm35. The knowledge was valueable.
Did u knoe that if u save a rm500 a month,that is rm6000 a year with a 1o% interest per annum. you could save about rm1,085,400.00,if u keep saving it for 30 years.imagine if u have a kid and u start saving the money since he was an infant.He would be a millionaire by the time he is 30. just imagine. That is just saving,imagine if u invest ur money in stocks,bonds,equities. That is right.It not that hard to be a millionaire.
If u knoe what ur doin.here i will teach u how to count the years if u need to double the money u invested.its a simple formula and common to those taking bussines,econs,financial and others economic related majors. The rule of 72. u take the percentage that a financial institution gives and take the number 72 and divide it with the percentage.for eg:
ASB (amanah saham bumiputra) would likely to give it depositors a high 10% per annum.
so u take the number 72 and divide it with the percentage
72/10 = 7.2 years
so it would take 7.2 years to double ur money.
if u invested rm10,000.00.it would take 7.2 years to make it to rm20,000.00
That is for a one time investments.
The method i said earlier with the rm500.00 a month,is if you save rm500.00 a month continuously for 30 years.*the estimated value after 30 years is the value,if the financial institution gives you 10% per annum*

*i urge all of u bumiputra's out there to invest in ASB,dont be ignorant and please fully utilise the advantages the government has given us*

The inner investor in me was liberated due to the talks and words of encouragement by the speakers. since a kid i was fascinated by the word money and investment. ironically,im now studying in a field that venture out so far from the world of investment.a study that is as old as the world,a study that we practice everday,a study that is crucial to the world development,without it,planes would never have left the ground,lightbulbs would never have been invented,profession as a rocket designer would never have existed,thats right ppl,im now studying engineering.

"Buy low,sell high", "high risk,high return".Those are the phrases that have been dwelling in my head since then.
During the seminar, made some new frends. MMU students,steve,chee wei,boon,very fun,nice,very chill.very lucky to get to know them.plus,they're in econ's related field.huhu
To sum things up,all and all,the seminar was great,gained some valuable knowledge,met new ppl,a brief insight in the world of investments.
